The Sankalp Project – Solidarity and support to Working Children Sankalp is a positive response to the burning issues of poverty, illiteracy, sickness, communal and caste conflicts, blocking the progress of the marginalized who live in slums; especially, that of children. It is a grass-root level project which functions directly under the national office of the Universal Solidarity Movement., in order to express solidarity with the less privileged persons in the society. .It organizes integrated welfare programs for working children. This project has been initiated with special emphasis on urban slums and the empowerment of women which requires special attention under the present circumstances. Besides running 10 non-formal education classes for working children, the Movement also conducts a monthly leadership training program and offers them opportunities to participate in the annual Knit India program. An annual dance-drama performance by these children is conducted for the Indore public. A group of these children are members of the first Interact Club in the world that is exclusively meant for children of the urban slums. This is a creative way of providing an alternative to the present economic, cultural and social uncertainty and chaos. The goal of this program is community reconstruction through personal transformation of individuals. The ultimate aim of the project is sustainable development ensuring quality of life through social development.
